Define Your Importance to the Community

June 1, 2009

Use your blog to explain the problem that you solve in the community. What’s the need that’s not being served? Use social media to tell people how you help and make a difference.

Make sure that you’re writing in very conversational tones. This is not the time to try to dazzle an audience with acronyms.

A lot of people may know that you do good work but they may not be sure what exactly you do. To strengthen ties with your supporters, as well as gain new donors, you need to make sure your mission is known.

You may also want to blog about what would things be like if you weren’t around.  Use social media to make sure that people don’t take you for granted.

All of this helps remind people of the important role your nonprofit plays in the community. As I’ve mentioned before, you don’t get the benefits of social media if you’re shy about your accomplishments.
