Let’s say your nonprofit has put together a great YouTube video. You’ve posted it on YouTube, your blog, and on Facebook. You’ve even alerted your supporters about it on Twitter. Now what?
It’s important to make sure that you ask people to share the clip. On YouTube, there are several ways to share. You can forward the video through email or distribute it through other social media sites like YouTube, MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook.
This is how videos go viral, where their popularity grows at a very high rate. But in order to start the avalanche of forwarding, you need to let people know that it’s okay for them to pass on the clips. It can be as simple as saying, “If you think someone would like this video, please pass it on to them,” or you can be more direct with, “Please post this video on your Facebook page and help us grow our community.”
This kind of social marketing costs you nothing but could have a big impact. People who support you, probably have like-minded friends. Why not use social media to network with them?
